KATHERINE JENKINS ANNOUNCES THAT SHE WILL RETURN TO SWALEC STADIUM TO RUN IN HSBC CARDIFF 10K FOR CHILDREN’S KIDNEY UNIT

Kidney Wales patron Katherine Jenkins will run in this year’s HSBC Cardiff 10K starting at the SWALEC Stadium where she sang at the Ashes opening ceremony with Kidney Wales mascot and patient Sahibba Ali.

The world famous mezzo soprano is already in training for the event on September 6 to help raise money for children affected by kidney cancer and renal failure at the Kidney Wales Children’s Unit in Cardiff.

Katherine, who fired the starter gun at last year’s HSBC Cardiff 10K in her first role as a patron of the charity, said: “I’m so excited about taking part in this year’s HSBC Cardiff 10K Run. It was wonderful starting last year’s event and I decided then that I really wanted to take part in the next one.

“The Kidney Wales Foundation is a charity that is so close to my heart and this year’s HSBC Cardiff 10K is the most important ever. Every penny raised will go to helping patients at the Children’s Kidney Unit in Cardiff, which Kidney Wales supports.

“The Unit cares for so many children, which is why I’m hoping as many people come out and support the Run as possible.

“The 10K is great for runners young and old and being a fast and flat course means you don’t have to be super fit to take part. The 2K Run gives children and families the chance to take part too and help the many children across Wales who need Kidney Wales’ support.”

Money raised from this year’s HSBC Cardiff 10K will be used to help children across Wales affected by kidney cancer and renal failure – children like Sahibba Ali from Newport who helped England win the toss at the SWALEC Stadium earlier this week when she was given the honour of leading the teams out for the big game.

Organisers are offering for a limited period only free child places to 10K phone-line entries only. Up until July 31, every adult entering the HSBC Cardiff 10K via phone will be offered a free child place for the 2K Run and a T-shirt to train in.

Entry prices to the Run are just £16 for affiliated club runners and £18 for non-affiliated runners. All entries receive a free race pack, while the first 3,000 will also receive a free race-day T-shirt.  Medals are awarded to everyone who finishes the race.

For younger runners and families there is the ever-popular HSBC Cardiff 2K Run, which takes place on the same day. More than 500 families took part last year. Entry for this year’s event is just £15 for a family of four, while for local businesses there is the hugely popular corporate team challenge at just £250 per team.
